METALLOphone: BONDS
The 3rd International Biennial of Contemporary Metal Art
The contemporary metal art biennial “METALLOphone”, which started five years ago, has become international and the only of its kind event in Lithuania dedicated only to metal art. After the success of the biennial “METALLOphone: personally” 2014, where fifty artists from twenty countries (Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, USA, Columbia, Poland, Sweden, Greece, Australia, Spain, The Netherlands, Israel, Germany, Italy, (n.b. South) Korea, Belgium, United Kingdom, Ireland, Argentina and Japan) have presented their works, this year the event returns with a new mission – to connect different artists around the world who speak one identical metal language.
The major factor in the biennial “METALLOphone: bonds“ 2016‘s program context becomes the metal bond that destroys big distances between different cultures, countries and people. Like a unifying language, metal not only connects the artists throughout the world, but at the same time, through creative process, peculiarly objectifies an intangible bond existing between the creator and the environment. Every person sees the world in their own way, describes different phenomena in their own words, so the bonds, which are given meaning by the metal with gathered medial qualities, become authentic, unique stories of the artists. The biennial invites the artists to capture their bond with metal and then through metal – with the world not only in the works, but also in a short following text.
The “METALLOphone: bonds" 2016 will include a new program – online international lecture cycle. Speakers from various countries around the globe and different schools will share their knowledge and observations about the contemporary metal art creation, movements and technologies as well as ancient traditions and conceptual perspective combined in art.
